FDA Issues Advil Recall

Natalie Beckerink • May 08, 2023

Last week on May 4, 2023, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued a recall on certain over-the-counter drugs that were stored in various Family Dollar locations across the country between June 1, 2022, and March 31, 2023.

The FDA announced the recall after it was discovered that the medications were being kept at inadequate temperatures. According to the National Library of Medicine, Advil is generally supposed to be stored in an area that is between 68 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit. The FDA did not specify what temperature the Family Dollar locations were being kept at except that it was outside the recommended range.

As of May 4, 2023, there have been no reports of any resulting illness made aware to Family Dollar, however, the company has asked stores impacted by the FDA findings to check their stock and discontinue any affected products.

Family Dollar has also notified customers that have bought any of the affected products that they may return them to the location they were purchased from without a receipt.

If customers have questions about the details of the recall, they can call Family Dollar Customer Service at 844-636-7687 from 9a.m., through 5 p.m. EST. If a customer has a medical question, however, they should contact their physician or health care provider, and can also report symptoms to the FDA’s MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program by one of three ways:
